An Abohar resident has approached the Punjab and Haryana high court, seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into his son's alleged murder during a rave party held in June last year in Abohar, where the son and nephew of former Fazilka MLA Mohinder Kumar Rinwa were allegedly among the participants.
Taking up the petition filed by Baldev Raj Chawla, the court headed by justice RP Nagrath issued notices of motion to the Punjab government and other parties in the case for filing their replies.
The FIR in the case was registered more than a year after the incident at the city-II police station, Abohar, on September 18 this year for causing death by negligence. The petitioner had alleged that his son, Sunil Chawla, 23, was invited to Fazilka resident Simran Setia's birthday party, organised on June 14, 2012, at Ice Blue Restaurant, where drugs, liquor and other narcotic substances were openly served till late night. He stated that the kith and kin of several powerful persons, including politicians and cops, attended the party.
The petitioner alleged that during the party, under the active guidance of Rinwa and liquor baron Shiv Lal Doda of Fazilka, his son was murder in cold blood by giving him drinks laced with celphos tablets. He informed the court that the next day, he got a call in the afternoon that his son had been rushed to the civil hospital; after reaching the hospital, the petitioner came to know that his son had died much before he was brought there.

{{/usCountry}}Baldev Raj has alleged that since Rinwa and Doda were both politically influential, they influenced the doctors as well as police officials to hush up the case. It has been alleged that Doda's son was also present at the rave party. The police had closed the case by stating that the deceased had died due to consumption of excessive alcohol, whereas the chemical examination report had found, "Aluminium phosphine insecticide and ethyl alcohol detected in contents of exhibits I and II.
