The UT administration has initiated the process of re-constituting administrator's advisory council (ACC). The council is constituted for a period of two years and its term had ended on March 31.
The home department has written to administrator Shivraj Patil for again constituting the panel comprising 42 members, who were appointed in the previous council.
The council is responsible for advising the administration on development issues and policy matters of the UT. The last meeting of the council was held on November 30, 2012, and only six such meetings were conducted in the past three years.
According to sources, the council has, so far, failed to serve the purpose for which it has been constituted. The members of the advisory council have been demanding that there is a need for proper follow-ups on suggestions and recommendations made during the meeting.
Besides, nine standing committees constituted for various sectors, including education, urban development, environment, health, urban planning, law and order, sports, transport and traffic management, have failed to come up with suggestions.
As per the laid-down norms, the UT administrator nominates members of the council belonging to different strata of society. The number of members cannot be more than 60.
