In a statement issued here, Amarinder also asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to go beyond its symbolic dissent against the government by way of making "hoax and hollow" statements.

"This is the time to practise what you preach and support the Congress on the no-confidence motion," he told the BJP, adding that, "If you fail to do so, you will stand exposed that you say one thing and do quite another and you are greedily glued to power."

The former chief minister said while drug trade and trafficking was the most important issue, there were some other pressing and urgent issues on which the Akali-BJP government had totally failed and which called for urgent attention, such as the economic slide, with the state virtually going bankrupt and treasuries empty, unemployment on the rise, and crime increasing unhindered.

"It will be in the fitness of things for chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to make a graceful exit right away rather than being shown the door, with more skeletons certain to tumble out of his government's cupboard," he remarked.
