Ambala Sadar Excised Area Property Owners' Association (ASEAPOA) on Sunday urged the health minister Anil Vij to resolve the deadlock over free holding properties at Ambala Sadar.
At a felicitation function held at Central Phoenix Club (CPC), the association has asked the minister to get the issue, which has been hanging fire since the last four decades, resolved soon.
The debate arose after the civil area was excised from the military area in February, 1977, through an excision agreement with the union government.
President Rohit Goel said under the agreement, civil areas of Ambala Cantonment were transferred to the Haryana government by the defence ministry. The terms of agreement shad stipulated that residential and commercial properties of Ambala Sadar Excised area which were on lease or on old grant were to be made freehold.
"Despite assurances from the successive governments, steps were not taken to doing so. The impasse has been hindering development of the town," he said.
Convener Ripudaman Gulati said former union minister Kumari Selja had raised the issue at a public rally, which also saw UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and then chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda but no action has been taken yet.
"As a result, building plans are not being sanctioned, sale deeds are not being registered and mutation work has come to a halt," he said.
Responding to the demand, Vij said that he was aware of the issue and has been raising it during his earlier terms as MLA.
"I will do my best to get the decision reviewed. It may take a while the government was new and the government is still settling in," he said.
"As a result, building plans are not being sanctioned, sale deeds are not being registered and mutation work has come to a halt," he said.
