The driver was later chased down and arrested on the charges of attempted murder.

Police said the incident was reported in the evening in Industrial Area-1 when constable Kuldeep Singh tried to stop the car (PB-11AL-4201) that had tinted glasses. However, the driver did not stop and hit constable Sandeep Kumar. “Due to the impact of the car hit, Sandeep landed on the bonnet. Even then the driver did not stop and kept on driving for nearly 200 m,” a police official said. The car later hit another person, a motorcyclist, who tried to chase the car. However, he escaped uninjured. The car was later stopped by a police recovery van that was also giving chase.

The car driver, Tanvinder Singh, was arrested while two passengers, Gagandeep Singh and Jitender Singh, managed to flee. All three are residents of Sirhind in Punjab. The injured cop was, meanwhile, rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32, where his condition is stated to be stable.
