Barely a week after a general manager of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) was arrested on alleged charges of molestation, another member attached to the body, this time a 59-year-old, was arrested on similar charges in west Delhi.
According to the police, Gurbaksh Singh was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by a teacher at a school in Hari Nagar alleging that she had been molested by him. The complainant is a teacher at the said school which receives aid from the DSGMC.
“The complainant approached us with her complaint on July seven on the basis of which Singh was arrested immediately,” said a senior police officer.
Singh was produced in court a day later and let out on bail. On June 30, Harjeet Singh of the DSGMC was arrested after a woman employee of the same organisation approached the police with a complaint. This was converted into a case under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) immediately at the Parliament Street police station.
When asked, a senior DGGMC functionary told HT: “The DSGMC has requested the Delhi Police to conduct a speedy investigation into it. If found guilty, the accused official with be dealt with as severely as possible. Apart from this, we have also requested the police to establish clear culpability so that the actual accused in the matter can be brought to justice irrespective of his or her gender. We are watching the case for any development closely.”
