Admissions at the Chandigarh College of Architecture have come under a cloud following a directive by the regulator, the Council of Architecture (COA), to the college not to intake any students for 2014-15 session. The college admits 40 students a year.
A notification to this effect has been put up on the regulator’s website, even as a college faculty, on the condition of anonymity, claimed that the admission process was underway and the COA order was a technical issue. “The students and the admission process have not been impacted,” the official added.
College principal Pradeep Kumar Bhagat could not be contacted, in spite of several attempts. Sources, however, claimed that the regulator issued the direction to stop admissions as college had not allowed inspection by COA in the past over six years.
COA president Uday C Gadkari, told Hindustan Times from Delhi that they had asked the college not to admit students till the time they allowed COA teams to inspect the college.
He added that a team was sent in the year 2010-11 but the college did not allow the team to inspect the college. “They do not accept our supremacy. That is the problem,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Gadkari added that college had not been allowing inspection for six years claiming that it was a government institute and did not require inspection from any other body.
“Since 1996, an acting principal has been running the institute. The posts of three professors have also not been filled since 1996. Recruitments happen on ad hoc basis,” CCA alumnus and chairman, Indian Institute of Architects (publication division), Surinder Bagha told HT.
