In a major breakthrough in their fight against against drug trafficking in the state, officials of the police’s criminal investigation department arrested an army man along with three other suspects after seizing heroin with a market value of Rs 5 crore from their possession.
The CID team, led by subinspector Vijay Kumar, found the four men wandering near Chambaghat in Solan. When questioned they became nervous and were unable to produce identification, which led to suspicion among the cops.
On being searched the police found an army identity card in the name of Muqeebur Rehman and three driver’s licenses issued in the name of Warish Ahmad, Safwam Khan and Noor Jaman. During the search Rahman appeared fidgety and tried to run away from the scene. All the four suspects are said to be residents of Lilong in Manipur.
On being frisked, the police team found a packet containing 440 grams of heroin in Rehman’s possession, which was attached to his abdomen. The cops ascertained it was heroin with the help of a drug detection kit.
“The value of the seized heroin in the international market is about Rs 5 crore,” said inspector general of police (crime) Satwant Atwal Trivedi. The police later filed the case against the four men under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 at Bharari in Shimla.

{{/usCountry}}All the four arrested were produced in a local court in Solan and were remanded in police custody for a week. After the drug seizure the CID instructed the officer investigating the case to ascertain whether drug trafficking organizations were involved. Following preliminary investigations the police have not ruled out the involvement of the international drug syndicates.
