In separate letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union home minister Rajnath Singh and union finance minister Arun Jaitley, Badal stated that the Punjab government was keen to render immediate assistance to the J&K government in handling this grave situation in terms of food and medicine supplies, doctors, blankets and clothing, or anything else the people of that state needed.

"We may also be informed of the nodal authorities, which could be contacted in this regard. We have not been able to establish contact with the J&K government despite our best efforts," the chief minister said in his letter to the central leaders.

Badal also told the Centre that he had urged the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) to send food supplies to Jammu and Kashmir.
