Former Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday said the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) should have got senior Akali leader Ranjit Singh Brahmpura inducted into the union cabinet than Bathinda MP Harsimrat Badal.

Reacting on the issue of representation to the Akali Dal in the union ministry, the CWC member said though it was the discretion of the party to nominate its minister, but Brahmpura should have got preference since he had given his life to the party and was one of the seniormost leaders.

However, Amarinder said Badals were known for that and they could not look beyond their family.
Amarinder hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invite to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the swearing-in ceremony.

He said that with Sharif responding positively it had sent a positive signal across the sub-continent, especially Punjab that would benefit immensely once the relationship between the two countries improved.

In an informal conversation with reporters after formally submitting his resignation from Patiala assembly segment, after being elected to Parliament from Amritsar, to Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal on Monday, Amarinder said that during his campaign he had preached peace between India and Pakistan in the overall interest of the two countries and Punjab.
