A day after Captain Amarinder Singh's reported outbursts against Rahul Gandhi, Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday claimed that the former chief minister will form his own party in collusion with the BJP after the Bihar elections.
In a hard-hitting statement, Bajwa also demanded Amarinder's expulsion for his "repeated attempts to destabilise" the Congress ahead of a critical election that is perceived to be a referendum on the Modi government.
"Amarinder Singh's opportunistic tendencies are rather well known. This is evident by his imminent plan to launch his own party and joins hands with the BJP soon after the Bihar elections," he said.
"Amarinder needs to respond on the tacit support that he is repeatedly extending to the BJP on issues such as Rafale jet deal and GST and also to Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who is involved in multi-crore drug racket," claimed Bajwa.
Amarinder and Bajwa are engaged in a bitter verbal duel for a long time now over the control of party leadership in Punjab. While Amarinder claims that the Congress graph was on the downslide in Punjab under his leadership, Bajwa blames the former CM for the party's two successive defeats in 2007 and 2012 assembly elections.
Bajwa took on the Amritsar MP for questioning Rahul's leadership abilities. "Amarinder seems to suffer from selective amnesia, is far removed from reality and under severe grip of Maharaja mindset which prevents him from acknowledging the changing times. Rahul Gandhi has achieved a momentous victory for farmers by forcing the arrogant BJP government to withdraw its land acquisition ordinance. I would also like to remind Amarinder that Rahul Gandhi was the driving force behind the UPA government's decision to notify one rank one pension for ex-servicemen."
