The UT administration has decided to introduce biometric attendance system in all departments, boards, corporations and institutes with effect from March 1.

With less than a month left for introducing the new attendance system, a meeting of the different department officials was held on February 9 to apprise the employees about the new system.

The sources said the new attendance system was being introduced for ensuring maximum attendance.

In the present attendance system, there is no exact mechanism to check the authenticity of the attendance marked by the employees, which is done manually.

The Centre has also recently started the biometric attendance system.

The UT information technology department is the nodal authority for introducing the system in different departments.

The process has already begun and the IT department is preparing the details of the employees of different departments.
The details of the staff falling under the administration’s preview are also being compiled at the institutes and other concerned bodies.

Though the system is being introduced to bring clarity in the system, many have been left worried considering the fact that it will digitise information about the employee’s entry and departure from the department concerned.

Confirming the development, UT adviser Vijay Dev said, “The introduction of the new system is aimed at bringing greater transparency at different levels.”
