Coming down heavily on INLD, Gupta said elections must be contested "in the right spirit". "Such acts only go to show that INLD is desperate," he said.

Five BJP youth wing activists were sticking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's posters at Beed Ghaggar on Sunday evening when some INLD workers allegedly threatened to remove the posters before they were attacked.

Gupta said such incidents also attested to the deteriorating law and order in the constituency and reflected poorly on the ruling Congress party.
