Temperatures are expected to soar higher in Haryana and Punjab in the next 48 hours, putting residents of the two states to more inconvenience. Local Met office has warned authorities in the two states as heat wave conditions are worsening and people have to be made aware of the worsening scenario on the weather front.
The highest maximum temperature recorded was in Patiala in Punjab at 44.5 degree Celcius and Hisar in Haryana at 45.1 degree. The maximum temperature rise will be accompanied by severe heat wave and dust storms in the region.
"Yes the temperatures are rising at a fast pace and in the next 48 hours the temperatures are going to rise further. We have also issued a warning in the states of Punjab and Haryana as the heat wave conditions are worsening and we are also asking the people to be aware of the situation," said Surinder Paul, director, metrological centre, Chandigarh, which monitors temperature in the region.
Haryana is experiencing warm south westerly winds blowing at 2 to 4 kmph that are increasing the temperature and making the weather extremely dry. The weather conditions in Punjab are no different where north easterly winds are blowing at 4 to 6 kmph leading to dust storms and haze due to settlement of dust particles in the clouds.
"The temperatures have been marked above normal in both the states and they are expected to soar with increasing heat waves. We do not foresee rainfall in the near future, but yes, some isolated parts of both the states might experience thunder storms accompanied by drizzle which will not affect the temperature very much," added Paul.
