Punjab chief electoral officer Kusumjit Sidhu confirmed the date for the by-election. As per reports, the election process would begin from June 16 with the filing of nominations.

The last date for filing nominations will be June 23 and after scrutiny the next day, the last date for withdrawal of candidatures would be June 27.

Voting will be held from 8am to 5pm on July 11, while the counting of votes would be held on July 14 from 8am onwards. The process would be completed by July 16.

The model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect in the districts in which the whole or any part of the assembly constituency is included.

Electoral rolls for Dasuya assembly constituency have been revised with January 1 as the qualifying date and the Commission would use EVMs in the by-election.

The Commission has decided that the voter's identification shall be mandatory in these by-polls and electoral photo identity cards (EPIC) shall be the main document of identity of a voter.

Two-time MLA Sahi (55), who was a chief parliamentary secretary, died of a heart attack on June 3. Sahi's bhog is scheduled for Tuesday, where announcement of the BJP candidate is also expected.

Sahi had beaten Congress rival Ramesh Chander Dogra in the January 30 assembly elections. Dogra reportedly is not keeping good health and there are chances that the Congress may field a new face.

It was learnt that one of the former ministers of BJP, who lost in the recent assembly elections, is keen on contesting the by-poll.
