CAG unearths discrepancies in PGIMER research projects

The annual audit report of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has found serious discrepancies in research project account of the institute.

The annual audit report of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has found serious discrepancies in research project account of the institute.

It has raised questions over the function of the research grant cell also.

According to the comptroller and auditor general (CAG), during the audit of research project account for year 2012-2013, it was noticed that the amount capital and revenue expenditure under grants for specific purpose as submitted by research grant cell of the institute don’t tally with the balance sheet of the institute.

The audit found that capital expenditure shown in the balance sheet of the institute is Rs 3.89 crore, however, as per the figures submitted by the research grant cell, the amount was shown as Rs 4.19 crore.
The difference is of Rs 29 lakh. Similarly, in the revenue expenditure list, difference in both the heads is Rs 3.05 lakh.

The audit report observed that the discrepancy indicates that the accounts of the research grant cell were not maintained properly.

However, the institute failed to furnish any reply.
