"The state election commission is fully prepared for the elections. Strict instructions have been issued to the civil and police administration to make foolproof security arrangements so that the poll process is completed peacefully," Punjab state election commissioner (SEC) SS Brar said in a statement here.

In contrast to the use of EVMs (electronic voting machines) in assembly and Lok Sabha elections, voters spread over 12,000 villages in the state would be marking the yellow ballot paper to elect their zila parishad candidate and the white ballot paper for the panchayat samiti nominee.

A total of 760 candidates are in the fray for 331 seats of 22 zila parishads, while 5,786 candidates are contesting for 2,702 seats of 146 panchayat samitis.

There are a total of 19,350 booths, of which 2,650 have been declared sensitive.
