Capturing nature’s moods

Exhibiting 42 of his latest works at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector 16, is photographer Sanjay Kumbkarni. About the connection poetry has with his art, Kumbkarni says, “It is truly said by someone, ‘Moon is there if you look at it’. The same way, when I pick up my camera and walk through a forest, I am surrounded by a million pictures; it depends on me what I make of everything I see. Whatever stirs my heart, I capture it and make it come alive through my photographs.”

Ask him what makes a good photograph and he says, “A photograph needs an emotional heart, an eye for a visual and a camera — in that order.”

At his 14th solo exhibit — My Branch, My Leaf — Kumbkarni continues to enthrall the onlooker with his captions. About the theme of this exhibition, he says, “I would call it ‘spirituality through leaves’ — through them, how one can relate to God. I, as a lens man, have tried to see the beauty in decay.”
