A special CBI court on Saturday directed former Punjab and Haryana high court judge Justice Nirmal Yadav to appear in person before the court on May 18 in connection with the 2008 ‘cash-at-judge’s door’ scam.
The court also issued the summons to four others in the case which hit the headlines after the mistaken delivery of suspected bribe money, allegedly intended for Justice Yadav, at another judge’s residence. Special Judge Ritu Tagore took cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the CBI against Justice Yadav and others on March 4 — the day she retired as a judge of the Uttarakhand high court — under criminal conspiracy and Prevention of Corruption Act.
The others named in the chargesheet are Delhi-based hotelier Ravinder Singh Bhasin, former additional advocate general of Haryana Sanjiv Bansal and property dealers Rajiv Gupta and Nirmal Singh.
The incident came to light after Justice Nirmaljit Kaur of the Punjab and Haryana high court reported to the Chandigarh Police that a parcel containing R15 lakh was delivered at her residence.
