Asserting that presence of more tunnels cannot be ruled out, home secretary RK Singh on Friday apprehended that frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan might be to 'mask' the construction work of underground tunnel found along the international border(IB) in village Chechwal of samba sector in Jammu.
"Ceasefire violations and firing on Indian posts might be an exercise to mask ongoing construction work of an underground tunnel," Singh told reporters after reviewing the security along the IB at Octroi post of Ranbir Singh Pura Sector here this morning.
The home secretary is on a two-day visit to J&K to review security along the IB and the Line of Control in Srinagar.
Singh said, "Though we are not able to understand the other reasons of firing, as earlier Pakistan used to fire unprovoked to cover up infiltration but in this sector why it happened and why it is happening, they will have to explain."
, "We cannot rule out presence more tunnels and that is why we are alert," adding "the experts of Geological Survey of India(GSI) are on the job and they (Pakistan) cannot stop the survey, which has to continue for about 2-3 months," he added.
Regarding farmers living along the border, the Singh said, "We will review the things and the farmers having their land near the fence will be allowed to cultivate it".

{{/usCountry}}An underground tunnel was found by a local youth on July 28 in village Chechwal of Samba district following which BSF and police jumped into action. A team of experts from GSI and other agencies were also engaged in finding out the facts about the tunnel.
