He claimed that weakening of federal structure, as has allegedly been done by the UPA government, was not in the interest of the country.

Speaking to the media after attending a function to mark the first death anniversary of former chief parliamentary secretary Amarjeet Singh Sahi, Badal said that due to the wrong policies of the Central government the situation in the country had become highly volatile.

"Successive central governments have already curtailed states' powers. NCTC would be another assault on country's federal structure, "he said.

He claimed that the NCTC was designed by the UPA government to usurp the powers of the state governments. "Setting up of NCTC is a deliberate move to cut the states to size. The government must hold fresh consultations with all the chief ministers as they are the biggest stake-holders in the fight against militancy."
