While Chandigarh Police are using global positioning system (GPS) to keep track of their vehicles, a doctor has used its higher version, fitted with a mike, to keep track of his wife.
A first-of-its-kind incident of stalking of a woman by her husband by using technology came to fore in the city after a doctor was arrested for the offence on Saturday. Dr Gyanender Maini, MD (medicine) at Maini Hospital, Sector 55, was arrested for allegedly spying on his wife, also a doctor.
Sector- 39 SHO Narender Patial said, “Three days back, the woman doctor complained to police that she suspected that there was some instrument installed in her car, which was tracking her movements.”
She told the police that her husband would come to know whatever she talked about while in the car and wherever she went without her telling anything to him. The police got conducted videography of the car and also got it checked from experts, who install such gadgets. They told the police that there is a ‘black box’ attached with the steering wheel.
The representative of a company, ‘Puma’, which is into making such gadgets was called. He told the police that the instrument, costing about Rs 18,000, was attached with the steering wheel. He said the ‘black box’ is used to keep track of a vehicle and is generally installed in high-end cars, so that the vehicle can be tracked down if stolen.
Police sources said the Puma company representative also identified Maini (36) whom he had supplied the black box.

{{/usCountry}}Sources added the doctor couple was having a marital dispute for the past four months and were living separately. Maini suspected his wife’s fidelity and had got the instrument installed in the car on March 2.
The police have booked him under Section 354-D (stalking or whoever follows a person and contacts repeatedly) of the IPC.
