The electricity streetlight employees and workers' union on Wednesday held a protest outside the municipal corporation (MC) on Wednesday.
Ravinder Singh, president, and Daljeet Singh, general secretary, demanded regularisation of the service of the employees who joined after 1992, release of salaries of the contract employees in time, filling up the vacant posts and no transfer on the basis of whims and fancies.
The union also demanded more tools to the employees citing they are putting their lives in danger and the authorities should provide better equipment.
Rakesh Kumar, convenor, the co-ordination committees of government and the MC employees said the chief engineer had called the union leaders for discussion and assured them of maximum support within the next 15 days.
The union has now decided to hold the next protest at the fire station on May 29.
