Civic body to fill CMO’s post to monitor dispensaries

In October, UT administrator Shivraj Patil had accorded approval to the committee to monitor and operate 20 dispensaries, which were handed over to the MC in 2010.

The committee decided that the post of the chief medical officer (CMO) would be filled to control the management of civil dispensaries falling under the jurisdiction of MC, doctors would be deputed to the civil dispensaries under the direct control of the MC, timings and punctuality of staff and doctors should be made strict in all dispensaries.

Stock of medicine should be maintained properly and duly intimated to the committee in the next meeting. Provision would be made for setting up labs and posts of lab technicians would be created.

Also, free services for MC employees would be arranged in the civil dispensaries and special medical cards would be made for all MC employees.

HT had highlighted how there was no infrastructure at these dispensaries, since their charge given to the civic body. The MC had allocated a budget of `22 crore for primary health care.

It also includes organising community awareness programmes to advice measures for bringing doctor-patient ratio as per the norms, inspecting the dispensaries and to formulate policies regarding modernisation of dispensaries.
