Chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday announced to reduce value-added tax (VAT) on mustard cake (sarson khal) from 5 percent to 2 percent, besides scrapping VAT on pulses and exempting jaggery (gur) from market fee. More concessions would be decided on the purchase of cotton, he added.
Addressing a state-level Vyapari Sammelan, Hooda said, "The traders are the backbone as far as development of the state is concerned. The government will honour top three honest tax payers among traders from every district every year."
Lashing out at the Narendra Modi government, Hooda said, "People are totally disenchanted with the union government because Modi did not stick to announcements he had made and burdened people by fanning inflation."
Hooda said the manifesto released by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is a bundle of lies. "The INLD leaders are not in the habit to give something to people because they have always been extracting money from them," he said.
The chief minister said, "When we came to power, the old-age pension was only Rs 200 per month but now it is Rs 1,000. Every section of society is happy with the Congress rule in the state and we shall form the government for third time in a row. The BJP has disappointed people by raising petro prices and rail tariff."
He appealed to the traders to vote and support the Congress candidates in the coming assembly elections.
