Chief minister Virbhadra Singh on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of a vegetable market at Bandrol in Kullu district.
Virbhadra said the market yard would be constructed with a cost of `7.17 crore, which would provide enough space to the agriculturists and horticulturists of the district for storing and marketing the produce. Besides it would also benefit the producers from Lahaul and Spiti.
"In the second phase of construction, a proper concrete wall will be erected along the river and appropriate infrastructure will be made available to the farmers and fruit growers," he said, adding, "With the construction of marketing yard, the local farmers and horticulturists will get better remunerative prices for their produce and such vegetable marketing yards will be constructed at Tapri, Jhukhala, Charankhud in Kangra, Rohru and other areas of the state."
The chief minister also launched an online set-up of Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) (Kullu and Lahaul & Spiti office) in Kullu, which is first of its kind.
He also announced a jeepable road over the Beas river, so that Kais village, which is on the left bank of the river (opposite Bandrol), can be connected.
Virbhadra also laid a foundation stone of a bridge to be constructed at a cost of `65 lakhs over Sarwari nullah in Kullu; inaugurated the office of deputy director elementary, constructed at a cost of `78 lakhs; science lab of government senior secondary school (boys) in Kullu, constructed at a cost of `80 lakh and a zila parishad guest house here, constructed at a cost of `75 lakh.
