Extreme cold and dense fog on the fourth consecutive day on Saturday morning threw normal life out of gear with all morning flights being cancelled in Chandigarh and trains, including Chandigarh-Delhi Shatabdi, running behind the schedule. According to Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, dense fog reduced the visibility to less than 150 meters in Chandigarh on Thursday morning.
According to Chandigarh airport officials, owing to low visibility, not even a single flight operated from the Chandigarh airport on Saturday morning. As the visibility dipped to less than 150 meters in the morning owing to thick blanket of fog, five flights were cancelled. The fog also delayed the morning Chandigarh-Delhi Shatabdi by three hours behind schedule.
According to Chandigarh meteorological centre, apart from Chandigarh, the dense fog was witnessed in almost all major cities of the region, including Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala in Punjab and Hisar, Karnal and Ambala. In Ludhiana and Patiala, the visibility remained less than 150 meters distance. However, Amritsar it was 350 meters.
Similarly, in Haryana, Hisar was worst affected with visibility reducing to less than 50 meters. In Ambala, the visibility was similar to Chandigarh at less than 150 meters.
Chandigarh meteorological centre has also issued warning that in the coming days too, visibility will remain at less than 200 meters in several parts of the region and it has also predicted that the current spell of fog is likely to continue for the next 3-4 days.
