Conference on advancesin botany at PU on Monday

Panjab University (PU) will host a two-day national conference on 'Recent trends in plant sciences with special reference to phycology and mycology' on Tuesday and Wednesday.The conference is being organised by the botany department of the university under the aegis of UGC Special Assistance Programme (DRS-III). Various issues related to plant diversity will be discussed on the occasion.

PS Ahuja, director general, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi, will inaugurate the conference at 10am and PU Dean University Instructions (DUI) AK Bhandari would preside over the function.

Eminent botanists of the country, including C Manoharachary, professor, department of botany, Osmania University, Hyderabad; Girish Sahni, director, Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH); LC Rai from Banaras Hindu University (BHU); SC Srivastava, director, Birbal Savitri Sahni Foundation Museum, Lucknow, will be present on the occasion along with the young faculty, scholars and postgraduate students.

Former chairperson of the department IS Dua will deliver a popular lecture entitled 'The homage to the two genes waiting for others to revolutionise our farms'. PU vice-chancellor AK Grover will chair the evening lecture on Tuesday.
