Battered by the recent debacle in the civic body elections and plagued by infighting, the Congress has decided not to hold its political conference on Hola Mohalla in Anandpur Sahib this year.
The first phase of the six-day Hola Mohalla celebrations began at Kiratpur Sahib on Sunday while the second and phase will start at Anandpur Sahib from March 4.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and SAD (Amritsar) will hold their conferences on March 5. The SAD conference will be addressed by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma.
State leaders of AAP, including convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur, member of parliament Bhagwant Mann, Dr Dharamvir Gandhi, Prof Sadhu Singh and Harinder Singh Khalsa, will participate in the party conference. Simranjit Singh Mann will address the SAD (A) conference.
Congress seems to be in complete disarray after its debacle in the civic body elections and infighting in the Rupnagar district unit. Moreover, district Congress committee president Harbhag Singh Saini has also resigned from his post a few days back and the fate of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa also hangs in balance.
When contacted, former Nangal MLA Rana KP Singh confirmed that the Congress would not hold its conference on Hola Mohalla, adding that he had not received any communication from the PPCC for holding the conference so far.
Meanwhile, a large number of devotees paid obeisance at Gurdwara Patalpuri Sahib and other gurdwaras at Kiratpur Sahib on the first day of Hola Mohalla.
