In a narco test, the subject’s imagination is neutralised by making him semi-conscious. In this state, it becomes difficult for him to lie, and his answers would be restricted to facts that he is already aware of.

Both constables belong to the Haryana, Reeta to Panipat and Ravinder to Karnal. The police have so far explored all angles including the role of her parents. Ravinder, too, has been questioned several times; but he has been claiming that he is not aware of her whereabouts. However, call records checked by the police reveal that the missing woman cop and Ravinder exchanged around 3,000 calls in the past one year. Ravinder and his wife have claimed that Reeta was “just like his sister”.

The police have also not ruled out ‘honour killing’, and questioned her parents, cousins and brother, suspecting the role of her family as discrepancies were found in their statements.

“We have now got permission from the court for conducting the narco test on Ravinder. It will be conducted after we get a date from the lab in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, where the test can be conducted,” said deputy superintendent of police (DSP), central, Ashish Kapoor.
