Saini is accused of killing his wife, Harpreet Kaur, alias Seema, whose body was recovered from her Phase-10 residence, where she lived with her five-year-old son, Karanveer, on rent on October 30.

"On October 28, we had a fight and she did not stop nagging me. I got frustrated due to her cribbing…I lost my cool and strangled her with the dupatta that she had tied on her head owing to headache before lying in the bed," Rahul said during his preliminary interrogation.

Sources said Rahul told the police, "She had just fallen asleep when I sat by her side on the bed and strangled her with the dupatta. In the morning, after hiding the body under the bed, I left for Ludhiana with my son to drop him at my parents' place."

"Saini, who was brought on transit remand, was produced in the court. He had absconded after murdering his wife on Sunday night. All these days, he had been hiding in Mumbai, Surat, Ajmer, Jaipur and Pune before going to his relative's house in Tata Nagar in Jharkhand, from he was arrested on Thursday. He had sold his scooter, which funded his stay at various places," said Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, SAS Nagar SSP.
