For the first time in the political history, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) released its manifesto for the state assembly elections.
The CPM has traversed a long way in the state and has made its presence felt in the elections. The party had tasted success in 1993 assembly elections when CPM general secretary Rakesh Singha won the Shimla assembly seat.
The CPM has promised to improve the economic health of the state by raising the issue of industrial package and special status to the state before the Centre.
The party has also promised to demand more share in power projects and royalty on per unit basis. To cope with the alleged increasing rate of unemployment in the state, the CPM has promised to give Rs 1,000 as unemployment allowance.
Agriculture is the mainstay of rural people in the state. To protect the farmers and agriculturists from the vagaries of weather, the party has promised to provide 90% subsidy on anti-hail nets to farmers.
Raising points over commercialisation and privatisation of education in the state, the CPM
promised to harden the rules against private education institutions and improve the condition in the government higher educational institutions by providing special grants.
The party also promised to improve the health sector, civil supplies department, public sector units and tourism industry in the state. Special steps will be initiated to improve the women's position in the society, promised the party manifesto.
