A day after reality show star, one-legged dancer Shubhreet Kaur Ghumman alleged that her Chandigarh-based husband Yash Makkar of torturing and duping her, the husband claimed innocence and instead levelled charges of mental harassment on her. This comes less two months after they tied the knot.
Shubhreet has alleged that Makkar married her by giving false details of family background and dumped her after taking over `10 lakh and gold ornaments from her and her family. After staying in a rented flat in Mohali with Makkar after their marriage on June 5, till a few days ago, she said she was planning to lodge an FIR against Makkar in her hometown of Malerkotla. “He had told me and my family that his family members lived in England and soon we would settle there. But, a few days after marriage, I came to know that his family was living in Chandigarh and he did not have any property. He only married me with an eye on my property,” she said.
“On July 21, when we returned from the market, Yash left me alone in the flat and did not come back,” she added. “Later, I found that he had withdrawn `1.45 lakh from my bank account and taken away my ornaments and `10 lakh, which my mom had given us to get settled after marriage… My mom had also spent `4 lakh on my marriage at Malerkotla.”

{{/usCountry}}She added that after returning from a dance event in Delhi, “I will file a complaint of fraud and sexual harassment, and seek divorce.”
But, calling the allegations “baseless”, at a press conference in Chandigarh, Makkar called Shubhreet a “psycho”, alleging that it was she who had “forced” him to marry her. “She threatened to commit suicide if I did not marry her.” He alleged that Shubhreet and her mother “tortured” him from July 17 to 22 at the couple’s flat in Mohali, following which he had filed a complaint. That complaint, HT has learnt, ended in compromise.
“We had met through common friends at my gym. It was she who proposed marriage,” he said, adding that she behaved badly with his parents, who live in Sector 22, Chandigarh.
A resident of Jhunda village of Sangrur, Shubhreet became popular after she participated in India’s Got Talent on Colors TV channel last year. Her father had died when she was only nine year old, and she lost her right leg in an accident in 2010. After spending one year on the bed, she took special training and became popular as the one-legged dancer.
