The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, has decided to change this year’s date of entrance examination, which the institute is going to conduct for admission in the various post-graduate (MD/MS) courses offered by it.
However, the authorities have yet not announced the fresh schedule for the examination. Earlier, PGIMER had decided to conduct examination on November 18. “Keeping in mind the interest of thousands of candidates aspiring to pursue their MD/MS at PGIMER, we have decided to change the date for PG entrance examination”, said PGIMER spokesperson Manju Wadwalkar on Saturday.
The PGIMER has changed the date for examination as another prestigious institute of the country- All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), New Delhi- had also decided to conduct exam for its PG courses (MD/MS courses) on the similar date.
As authorities of both the institutes were reluctant to change their respective examination schedule, it had put thousands of medical aspirants, who wanted to appear in examinations of both the institutes, in a fix. “However, we are still working out the fresh schedule and have yet to decide the new date for the examination”, added Wadwalkar.
Earlier, PGIMER authorities had cleared on September 19 that they could not change the schedule as it had been decided a year ago. On the other hand, AIIMS authorities had expressed their unwillingness to change the schedule by putting forth the rationale that AIIMS had to conduct entrance examination in five various cities and it was easy for PGIMER to reschedule the entrance examination as it was conducted only at one centre at Chandigarh.

At least 50,000 candidates appear in our examination, which takes place in five cities. In contrast, around 6,000 students appear for around 200 seats at PGIMER, which conducts examination only at one centre”
