The authorities of DAV College, sector 10 are taking extra precautions this year during the ongoing Panjab University elections. There is a tight security in and around the campus to avoid any kind of untoward incident.
"We are not stopping any kind of activity going on in the college, it is just a precautionary measure which we are taking to avoid any kind of violence that might took place on the college premises so we have asked for more police personnel to control any un-ethical practice," said college principal BC Josan while talking to HT.
There are two police barricades on either side of the gate at a distance of around 200 meters and no vehicles are being allowed to come inside those cordons. "Any unidentified vehicle or the ones with male occupants without proper identity cards are not being allowed and this is for the safety of the students," said a police personnel guarding the college.
The college has a reputation of becoming a battleground for the various parties during the time of student elections.
"This year there is a lot of police posted in and around the premises, it could scare the students and they might not come out to vote," said Randeep Varaich, presidential candidate of Student's Organization of Panjab University (SOPU).
While, Preetraj Singh Kang, the candidate of Punjab University Student's Union (PUSU) said, "It is a good thought on the part of college administration to control and build the image of the college because in past there has been incidents of illegal entry of students in the college."
The college has a reputation of becoming a battleground for the various parties during the time of student elections.

Harpreet Singh Garewal, chairman of Hindustan Students Association (HSA) who have aligned with Himachal Students Union (HIMSU) said, "Although there are more police personnel but it is good that the outsiders are being nabbed, it sends a positive signal to others."
