The decomposed body of a 39-year-old man was found in the reservoir of Kaushalya Dam, Pinjore, on Wednesday.

The victim has been identified as Sachin Kochar, a taxi operator, and resident of Madan Pura village in Panchkula.

Police said Sachin lived with his wife and children in Panchkula. According to them, following a call from someone on his birthday (March 29), Sachin, after purchasing chicken and two bottles of country liquor, left home on his motorcycle.

But when he did not return until Monday, his kin lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the body was spotted by a guard deployed at the dam. He sounded the police who identified the body with the help of the victim’s motorcycle.

The cops recovered `4,300, a gold chain and a mobile phone from which SIM card and memory card were missing. Besides a tyre of the motorcycle was also missing.

Later, Sachin’s family members staged a protest at Gandhi Chowk, alleging police inaction. “The police did not make efforts to trace Sachin and are deliberately delaying the autopsy,” said Sachin’s kin.

According to the autopsy report, the victim had sustained serious injury on head. The viscera samples of the deceased have been sent to ascertain the reason behind his death, Pinjore SHO inspector Satish Kumar said.

A case of murder has been registered against unidentified persons.
