In order to reduce the stress during board exams, UT education department is gearing up to start extra classes for the students before or after their school.
The department has asked the schools to send a list of the teachers who can volunteer to teach the students after school hours and can take classes an hour before the school in order to facilitate the students in their preparations for boards.
The purpose is to make the students stress free while preparing.
According to the officials, students from weaker sections, students with disabilities and students facing linguistic problems while preparing will be given preference in these classes.
Schools had to submit a list of the teachers for the same by February 27.
Bhag Singh Kairon, physics lecturer in Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 23, and president of joint action committee of teachers said, “I think this arrangement by the department is really wonderful as students would be able to get the guidance while preparing for the exams. Around ten teachers from our schools have volunteered to give their services. Students usually face problems in science and mathematics and they would benefit a lot by staying in touch with the teachers”.
According to an official, the arrangement is a result of the recent suicide committed by a Class 11 student in a city school.

{{/usCountry}}“Department wants to look after its students and has asked teachers to volunteer their services. There were speculations that the deceased child was under lot of stress as he could not perform well in physics. Therefore the department wants to act on it,” an official said.
UT education department has also started a helpline to reduce stress among students. The helpline would remain functional from February 10 till March 31. It includes names and phone numbers of 14 subject teachers.
