Diarrhoea outbreak in Mataur: DC says rumours false, no need to panic

A team led by deputy commissioner (DC), including civil surgeon and other employees of the municipal corporation (MC), on Monday visited Mataur village, Sector 70, here to check diarrhoea outbreak in the area. The officials, however, clarified that there was no need to panic and situation was in control.

According to information, about 250 residents of the area are having indigestion and other stomach problems, which have been termed diarrhoea by many without even getting a proper check-up.

DC Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu said there was no need to panic. Speaking to HT, Sidhu said, “The problem has arisen due to sewerage problem in the area. Also, residents have illegally put up pressure motors. We have taken water samples for checking, and orders have been passed to address the sewerage problem at the earliest.”

The team, during the check-up drive on Monday, visited every house and checked patients. Civil surgeon Dr Neelam Bhardwaj said the situation was absolutely under control and it appeared to be the cases of stomach indigestion and other stomach related problems. Medicines were given to patients. A team of doctors has also been appointed to monitor the situation on every day basis.
