Vancouver based Lo and Richard Loat are using their own funds to deliver donated Hockey sticks, pads, Their overall aim is to teach youths how to skate and play outdoor pond hockey
"Hockey bolsters a way of life and is something played by all ages," says Victor Lo, a secondary school teacher in Vancouver who is delivering donated hockey gear to Ladakh this week.
Taking more about it Loat says," "India is not a country known for its love of ice hockey, but the sport is thriving in Ladakh,"
"Hockey is popular game in that region because they have sub-zero temperatures for a good portion of the year. Outdoor ice rinks are easy to maintain," added Lo.
It is believed that soldiers stationed in the area many years ago were the ones who introduced the popular Canadian game.
"The great thing is the level of female hockey that is encouraged.. When the school is closed for the winter, they can't think of anything but hockey."
The pair is involved in a non-profit organization called Five Hole for Food, which uses hockey as a vehicle for social change while providing tonnes of food for millions of hungry Canadians each year.
