A 26-year-old youth from Ludhiana was arrested for allegedly opening fire at a bouncer at Buzz Lounge in Sector 17 on late Sunday night.
A splinter of the bullet hit the foot of the bouncer, Rahul Sharma, 27, who was admitted to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16.
The accused has been identified as Nitin Yeti, a resident of Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, Ludhiana, and the son of a businessman. The police have recovered a .32-bore revolver and two cartridges from the spot.
Sector 17 station house officer (SHO) Udaypal Singh said around 2am on Sunday night, three youths from Ludhiana, who attended a party at the discotheque, entered into heated arguments with the bouncer.
Singh said within minutes, the trio started hurling plant pots at the disco’s entry gate, and eventually, Nitin pulled out a .32-bore revolver from his car and fired three rounds in the open, one of which hit the foot of bouncer Rahul Sharma, a resident of Sector 40. The entire incident was captured in the CCTV cameras installed at the disco.
He added that cops present nearby rushed to the scene and nabbed Nitin and confiscated his weapon, while his accomplices managed to flee the scene in a car. Nitin was taken for medical examination, which confirmed that he was drunk.
One of the absconding accused, Sherry, also the son of a businessman, was arrested on late Monday night. The Maruti Swift car in which he fled the scene was recovered from his possession.
A case under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others), and sections 25-27 of the Arms Act at the Sector 17 police station.
Nitin was on Monday produced before the court that remanded him in one-day police custody.
