The Education Department announced an increase of 15 percent seats for admission to Class-11, in some government schools, here this Wednesday.
Against the original 12,500 seats, this year 16,500 forms were deposited, while last year the number was 14,000 forms. The number of seats have been increased to around 14,000 seats that will be allotted to students in the first counselling in government senior secondary schools on Friday.
Sunil Bedi, subject expert of vocational studies who is also taking care of admissions said, “An increase of 15 percent seats has been made in the available seats of government schools. The decision was taken because not every student whose name appears in the merit list, deposits the fee. Therefore, a margin of seats is increased every year considering the dropout factor.”
The board results this year have been good as more than 1300 students have secured a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 10. The figure was 800 last year.
Deputy Educational Officer (DEO) Vinay Sood said, “The reason so many forms have been deposited is because those students who take provisional admission in private schools also apply in government schools. If they get a school of their choice, they take admission there. Another reason is students apply through various forms in order to apply for two or more streams. But I can assure you that every student gets a seat. We will increase the seats when required.”
Bedi said, “School-wise and merit-wise final list will be uploaded on the department website and at government schools on July 1 following which two days will be given to submit fee in the school where the seat has been allotted.”

{{/usCountry}}The common merit list would be out on June 28. The students are advised to go through their particulars in case of any discrepancy. They can report it till June 29 before 1pm at two grievance cells made for the purpose at Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector-16, and GMSSS, Sector-19.
