After a delay of nearly six months, the UT education department is all set to advertise nearly 1,100 teaching posts in the coming week.The matter was pending since March this year after the ministry of human resource development gave its approval to the department to recruit over 1,100 teachers for effective implementation of the right to education act.
Sources said the department had already got the approval of the UT administrator for the teaching posts. It would hire a computer agency that would invite applications from eligible candidates and further prepare the merit list.
Sources further said this time the UT education department would hire teachers only through two written papers.
"The department is planning to fill 1,050 teaching posts of junior basic teachers (JBTs), trained graduate teachers (TGTs) and post-graduate teachers (PGTs), on the basis of performance of candidates in two written papers- one for general awareness, mental ability, and teaching aptitude, and the other for the subject that the teacher specializes in," said an official.
Officials said central teacher eligibility test (CTET) would be the basic eligibility to apply for these posts. Those without CTET would not be entertained.
This move, said officials, would improve the pupil-teacher ratio, which currently stands at 1:47, higher than what has been proposed in the Right to Education Act, 2009. Officials further said besides these teaching posts, the ministry also approved 22 clerical posts at the directorate level. It included new posts of clerk, senior assistant, steno, etc. The department was also planning to fill these posts at the earliest, added officials.
