SHO Randhir Singh said a case against professor JK Sharma was registered under Section 354 (criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and the SC/ST Act.

Sources said an additional commissioner of police (ACP) rank officer would investigate the allegations.

They said a fortnight ago the victim had complained to union minister Kumari Selja and state education minister Geeta

Bhukkal alleging that the accused was seeking sexual favours from her for her giving marks in the exams. She said he even passed casteist remarks after she refused to oblige him.

Sources said both leaders have forwarded the complaint to the deputy commissioner of police (rural) Nazneen Bhasin.

They said the DCP has ordered registration of case and to hold further investigations.
