In a statement, Amarinder said the five policemen, including the SHO of Khalra police station, who had been dismissed from service, had been made scapegoats in order to protect Valtoha.

The PPCC chief said the SHO had registered a case against Mohinder Singh and Joga Singh for allegedly possessing five crates of liquor. Later, it turned out that the two were the accused in a case of murder of four persons at Kashipur (Uttarakhand).

Within half-an-hour of the Kashipur murder, the two were shown to be in possession of liquor at Khalra in Tarn Taran district in a clear attempt to protect them, Amarinder said. They were shown arrested later. When the Uttarakhand police tracked the accused to Khalra, they approached the local police and preliminary investigations led to the facts, he added.

The PPCC president stated that since the police of two states were involved, it would be better that the case be probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
