Finally, sun smiles over tricity

After a long spell of dense fog and cold, the sun finally smiled over the tricity on Tuesday morning.

After a long spell of dense fog and cold, the sun finally smiled over the tricity on Tuesday morning.

The bright day brought relief to residents even as the maximum temperature rose to 20.4°C. However, the minimum temperature was recorded at 5.8°C.

According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, Wednesday would remain generally cloudy with possibility of rain. The maximum temperature is likely to remain at 17 C, with the minimum temperature at 6°C.

Earlier, in the wee hours of Tuesday, fog was witnessed. However, it cleared out as the sun rose.

The fog led to cancellation of five flights and delayed three trains.

The cancelled flights include two Jet Airways flights from Chandigarh to Delhi, one Spice Jet flight from Chandigarh to Delhi and two Indigo flights to Srinagar and Bombay from Chandigarh.

The morning Shatabdi reached the Chandigarh railway station at 12.45pm, an hour late from its scheduled time. Deluxe train from Bandra to Chandigarh reached at 7pm, three hours late from its scheduled time. Unchahar Express, which has a scheduled arrival at the Chandigarh railway station at 9.25am, was expected to reach 10 hours late, according to railway authorities.

On Monday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 14.6°C, six notches down from the normal temperature.
