Police have registered a case of dowry death against four in-laws of Chandigarh police woman constable Tamanna, including her husband.
Tamanna, 25, posted with Chandigarh traffic police, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her house in Sector 17 on November 22. She had recently delivered a baby boy on November 8.
Her husband Vikas, mother-in-law Krishna Devi, brother-in-law Harsh and sister-in-law Sweeti were booked after her post-mortem, conducted on November 23, revealed that she died of bleeding resulting from a stomach injury. Strangulation marks too were found on the body, as per the autopsy report.
The case under Sections 304-B (dowry death) and 498-A (demanding dowry) of IPC was registered on Sunday night on the complaint by Tamanna's father Om Prakash.
In his complaint, Om Prakash claimed that her in-laws harassed her for dowry and that she had returned to her parental house soon after her marriage in 2009. But after mediation, she had returned to her marital home but the harassment did not decrease.
Even after she was blessed with a baby girl, her harassment continued. In 2011, she joined Chandigarh police as constable.
"Her harassment increased after her delivery on November 8. Her husband remains idle," said Mahendar Singh, a relative of Tamanna.
