Four students booked for MDU violence

The clash between two students group of Maharishi Dayanand University(MDU) left six students injured besides minor bruises to vice chancellor RP Hooda, who was present on the spot to resolve the matter on Thursday night here.

The clash between two students group of Maharishi Dayanand University(MDU) left six students injured besides minor bruises to vice chancellor RP Hooda, who was present on the spot to resolve the matter on Thursday night here.

In a bid to escape some male students barged into girls hostel, which created panic among the girl students, who registered a protest later on Friday against poor security system of girls hostel.

The sequence of incidents took place right in the presence of vice chancellor and other senior officials of MDU, which has raised serious eyebrows of varsity security system.

As per details, girl students were protesting outside girls hostel in MDU on Thursday night against overcharging of diet, and too much interference of hostel warden in their affairs. They had been protesting from the day long, and were adamant to meet vice chancellor for addressing their grievances, late in evening, vice chancellor came and was attending to them.

To escape the beating, students ran into the girls hostel. Later, scores of girls reached the deputy commissioner's office and demanded action against their hostel warden who according to them planned the entry of boys inside hostel, which created a sense of insecurity amongst hostlers.

Vice-chancellor RP Hooda said: "The scene was horrific, and situation was so volatile that anything could have happened at that time. But we were crippled as police did not arrive for long, despite repeated phone calls and messages, later after police arrived, the assailants fled from the spot". Hooda said that he has ordered a thorough enquiry into the reasons of this incident to proctor of varsity, and they would take a stringent action into this unfortunate incident in the campus of varsity. In day time, a student group led by Naveen Jai Hind demanded a high level probe into the incident and termed it as a failure on the part of MDU administration.

Rohtak police PRO Ved Parkash Nain said "Four students namely, Joginder, Dharmbir, Yogesh and Virender have been arrested on the charges under various sections of IPC into the MDU violence on Thursday night".
