Four undertrials escape from Sector-43 court lock-up

In a major embarrassment to the police, four undertrials facing charges of different nature escaped from the 'bakshikhana' at the district court complex, Sector 43, on Wednesday afternoon. The accused have been identified as Abrar Khan, Shahna Alam, Pankaj and Vicky.

In a major embarrassment to the police, four undertrials facing charges of different nature escaped from the 'bakshikhana' at the district court complex, Sector 43, on Wednesday afternoon. The accused have been identified as Abrar Khan, Shahna Alam, Pankaj and Vicky.


According to the sources, when the accused were locked in the 'bakshikhana', they went inside the toilet. They then broke the lock of the toilet window, climbed a water pipe to reach the fourth floor of the court and fled away.


The escape came to light when the undertrials were to board the police vehicle for the jail at around 5pm. During the counting, the cops found that four accused missing, following which a search operation was launched. An call was made to Police Control Room and higher authorities were informed about the incident.

Soon after receiving the information, senior police officials, including DSP (Line) Suman Kumar reached the spot. Police teams were sent to various parts of the city, including the bus stand, but to no avail.

"We have registered a case and four search teams have been formed. The teams will look for them at their possible hideouts and their native places," said Sector 36 SHO Ram Dayal.

SP (city) Parvinder Singh said the accused had fled from the lockup after climbing the water pipe to reach the fourth floor and then scaling the wall. "An inquiry has been initiated into the matter to find out the negligence of the cops, if any."

Charges against the accused

Abrar Khan: He is facing theft charges and was presented in the court by Sector 36 police

Shahne Khan: He is facing theft charges and was presented in the court by Sector 31 police


Pankaj: He is facing charges of voluntarily causing hurt with sharp-edged weapon and was presented in the court by the Sector 36 police

Vicky: He is facing charges of threatening and voluntarily causing hurt and was presented in the court by the Sector 26 police.
