From August 14, you can check your water bills online and can also get SMS alerts to remind you of payment dates. The service to be started by the municipal corporation of Chandigarh will also provide for consumers to submit their meter reading online and get their bills through email.
For these services, the civic body has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National
Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) and the directorate of telecommunication (DoT). The public health department of the MC has also tied up with the postal department for delivery of water bills, which is already working since July 1.
The move came after the MC found a long list of defaulters and disconnected nearly 1,800 connections in the past three months. "Earlier many consumers were complaining that they were not getting the water bills on time, which caused a delay in payment. The new service will not give any chance of delay and the consumers can pay their bills by showing the SMS at the Sampark Centre," said Ramesh Chander Diwan, superintending engineer, public health department.
At present there are 1.5 lakh water connections in the city.
Another senior officer, who is in charge of the project, said that to avail the services, the consumer has to register himself with the MC website site -- mcchandigarh.nic.in -- or by emailing to osd_mcc@chdut.nic.in, and give a mobile number and email-id.
After the payment of bill, the consumer will get another alert.
The hard copies of the water bills will be dispatched through post and the postman will get a duplicate copy signed by the consumers along with their mobile numbers.
