The Haryana government on Saturday announced new pay-scales under the new HCMS (Group A) Service Rule, 2014, and also Class-I status to them at the entry level.
Interacting with the media after chairing the cabinet meeting in which a decision to this effect was taken, chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said now the Haryana Civil Medical Service (HCMS) doctors, who were presently being governed by HCMS (Class-II) Rules, 1978, would now be treated Class-I (Group-A) at the entry level.
There are 2,560 medical officers (MOs) and 442 posts of senior medical officers in the health department.
The hike in the pay and status is seen in the wake of an acute shortage of doctors in the state as not many doctors got attracted by the government jobs. The shortage of doctors has also been affecting the functioning of essential services in health sector, especially in the rural areas.
Hooda said at present, the MOs were initially recruited in Group-B and after successful completion of two years probation their service was converted into Group-A.
Accordingly, their entry level pay scale has now been changed from Rs 9300-34800 (Pay Band 2) plus 5400 GP to Rs 15,600-39,100 (Pay Band 3) plus 5400 GP ā the scale given to other Group-A officers in the state, he said.
So far, specialists who were diploma holders were not given opportunity to be considered for direct appointment for the post of SMOs while the present amendment in rules would provide the PG diploma holder doctors an opportunity to become SMO (Group-A) through direct recruitment and encourage doctors to acquire diplomas.

The Haryana cabinet further liberalised the policy on outof-turn appointment to sports medal winners.
Now, the medal winners of Commonwealth Games, world championship and world cup by recognised sport association or federation would also be considered for appointment to a group āCā post.
